Chapter 8.5 Chapter 9

Bonus Manga 2 is the second bonus chapter, the sixth and final chapter of the second volume, and the overall fourteenth chapter of Fruits Basket Another.

Summary[]

Yuki Sohma tells his son Mutsuki Sohma about his past as the Rat and about the Sohma Curse.

Plot[]

Mutsuki's Family

Mutsuki and his family making trails of footprints in the snow.

Mutsuki recalls one of his favorite childhood memories; which was when the snow piled up, he, his mother Machi Kuragi, and his father Yuki Sohma would always wake up early, hold hands, and make trails of footprints. Thereafter, they would have breakfast together as a family.

However, Mutsuki soon realized that life wasn't always happy and "perfect". When Mutsuki began attending middle school, his father told him about the Sohma Family and the Curse, as well as his own history as the Rat. Mutsuki couldn't believe it, but it added up since he had always felt like something was off with Sohma Family, as he had witnessed Ren Sohma attempting to stab Mutsuki's friend and relative Shiki Sohma before Shiki's mother, Akito Sohma, protected him and took the blow.

Mutsuki then expresses how he was happy that his father had told him that, but that he wouldn't let it affect his future, as he would move forward. Since Mutsuki was grateful and began thinking of what his parents had done for him throughout the years, he began telling Yuki that he was glad that he and Machi were his parents, that he is glad that he lives with them, and lastly that their home is the place he always wants to come home to, since it was always fun and warm.

Upon hearing this, Yuki broke down in tears and Machi comforted him. It was this day that Mutsuki realized that people cry when they are happy, too.

Trivia[]

  • The family tradition of making footprints in the snow is a reference to Chapter 102, where Yuki promised Machi to walk in the snow with her.
  • When Mutsuki expressed how much his parents and their love meant for him, there was a shuttlecock illustrated in the background. This means that it was a direct reference to when Yuki was playing badminton with his friends in high school. Yuki wanted exactly the things Mutsuki had gained, so when he was able to give these things to his son, he broke down in tears of happiness.
