Naohito Sakuragi (桜木 直人, Sakuragi Naohito) is the one of the two student council secretaries during Yuki Sohma's presidency, the other being Kimi Toudou. He is very short-tempered and works hard at his student council duties and absolutely refuses to call the council the "School Defense Force," as the vice-president Kakeru Manabe wants. When he meets Yuki, he claims he is Yuki's "rival", because he has a secret crush on Motoko Minagawa, president of the Yuki fan club.

Naohito is a young man of average build with a noticeable shorter height, which he is extremely insecure about. He is never shown smiling and is often seen with a frown, which gives the impression that he is annoyed. He has nape-length, straight light brown hair with free-falling bangs and similarly brown eyes.

Naohito is depicted as a no-nonsense and short-tempered young man. An outspoken person with little to no patience for inconvenience and silliness, he frequently loses his temper or is often left dumbfounded and angered by Kakeru Manabe and Kimi Toudou's antics and slacking off in general. He is very used to rushing around to do things.

Although he comes off as level-headed, unfriendly, and rash, he can be easily embarrassed and has a sort of "tsundere" personality, and tends to run away from situations if it is too much for him to handle. Additionally, his crush and interactions with Motoko prove that he is a kind-hearted boy who puts the happiness of the people dear to him before his own.

Story Overview

He has not had any interaction with anyone within the Sohmas other than Yuki and Ayame (including Tohru Honda).

Motoko Minagawa

Naohito has had a long-standing crush on Motoko, having been watching and admiring her from afar. In contrast to his hot-tempered personality, Naohito is genuine, bashful, and considerate in his interactions with Motoko. After she confessed her feelings for Yuki and got "rejected", Naohito, in turn, expressed about how he wished that she would keep smiling brightly and continue being happy since new meetings always follow farewells.

  • Natsuki Takaya noted that she never drew Naohito smiling.
  • Kakeru and Kimi sometimes call him Chibi-suke (chibi meaning small, and -suke being a common masculine name-ending), which irritates him because he is sensitive about his short stature.[1]
  • Naohito has two older sisters and a middle-class upbringing.
